A friend’s mother (who is also a friend) asked for a painting before I moved away.  I wasn’t able to get it to her before I moved, but I delivered it ~ a year after.  She’s an English teacher and she said she wanted something based on the idea of “a bookshelf”.  Then she gave me free reign.

Basically, I thought, books on end (a bunch of spines of different shapes and colors) and something rectangular.  I spent a lot of time fine-tuning all the shapes and colors to make something coherent.  I wanted all the color blocks to be interesting on their own (like books are), but for the whole thing to come together as one final image (a bookshelf).
