This was a painting I did for my friend Steve. He showed me the wall where he was going to hang it, so I just kind of based it off that. The walls were painted a very light green, and the rest of the house was in muted pastels, so I wanted to make something that would work well in the space (i.e. avoid primary colors, not black/white).
Untitled, 2013, 36 x 60 inches, acrylic on canvas
I mixed several different shades of green, blue, and a yellow ochre with a thick acrylic retarder gel medium to increase the working time of the paint. After painting on thick layers of the paint to completely cover the canvas, I used a couple different large rubber palette knives to blend and shape the paint.
This painting made it onto an instagram post, so, I’m basically famous now.. 🙂
